Exploration Day

This is one of many views of Rumelihisar Castle. It was built in 1452 under the instruction of Sultan Mehmet to "choke off aid to Constantinople during the final siege of the city" (Insight Guides: Turkey) This map was the only information given us at the front of the castle. There are no arrows or signs instructing tourists which direction to turn. It was great to be able to explore at our own pace and take as many pictures as we wanted.
There is a great view of the Bosphorus from the highest point of the castle. You can see there are no safety rails lining the stairs. The sign should read 18 years and older, enter at your own risk. Posted by Picasa
